Upcoming Project:

Unfixing the Mindset.

Many women in Nigeria die during childbirth, and most times, the babies die too. Many of these fatalities are avoidable because many of the deaths are a result of the pregnant women's refusal to deliver their babies by caesarian section. Even when doctors have told them that it is the best option for them, they are still adamant. Unfixing the Mindset is a programme where we intend to educate women to accept the caesarian section as a safe option. By doing this, we will help to reduce the maternal mortality rate, which is very high in Nigeria. Maternal mortality is defined by the World Health Organisation as a death that occurs during pregnancy or within 42 days of delivery or termination of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or worsened by pregnancy. The mindset of not agreeing to a c-section is caused by illiteracy, ignorance, and cultural orientations. We hope to write and distribute pamphlets and newsletters in different Nigerian languages so that the message will be passed across to all women, especially those in rural communities who may not be able to read in English. The pamphlets and newsletters will explain in detail the dangers of prolonged labour and the consequences of not agreeing to a c-section. We have interviewed doctors and nurses and their detailed explanations would form the content of these publications. Help us save lives by supporting this cause. Your donations will be acknowledged and utilised judiciously.
